A Sussex County man convicted of murder in the 1980’s has been granted parole. Ransford Bryan III was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison for the murder of 18-year-old Douglas Brocway in 1987. Brockway’s mother said that Bryan shot Brockway three times in the head after he found him stealing from Bryan. Bryan had been up for parole since 1999, but has been denied each time. Bryan is now set up for a Level Four work release program, which will allow him to go to work and back to the facility he’s staying in. Once this stage is complete, he’ll be dropped to Level Three, where he can move back into the community. Brockway’s mother said she will now take on state laws to give people a vote on allowing violent offenders parole.
