This year’s Coastal Cleanup saw 2.7 tons of trash and recyclables picked up from over 68 miles of Delaware waterways and coastlines from Wilmington to Fenwick Island.  1115 volunteers took part.   DNREC officials say over 21,500 pieces of food or beverage-related trash was picked up – including higher than usual numbers of straws, plastic lids and plastic bottle caps.  Volunteers also found some more unusual items – including a dishwasher, a message in a bottle from 2007, a pirate hat and a car muffler.  Next year’s cleanup is set for Saturday, September 14th.
