DNREC needs your help to plant dune grass

DNREC needs your help – green thumb accepted, but not required.  Volunteers are needed to help plant dune grass along the coast from Fenwick Island to Broadkill Beach.  The planting will be done on Saturday, March 20th.  The hearty grass helps to stabilize and build the dune, which has had a workout during this year’s harsh nor’easter season.  Volunteers will plant Cape American Beach Grass from Fenwick Island to Broadkill Beach on March 20, but the online registration ends on Friday.   Click here for the online registration  or call DNREC at 302-739-9921.

Not so fast, Delaware!!! If we are going to have any chance of getting federal assistance to help pay for this, and so many other storm related damages, state officials need to get in there to photograph and/or video tape the shoreline to document the millions in damages and needed repairs there and elsewhere. I can’t understand how federal emergency disaster declarations have been established for MD, NJ, VA and WV, but none so far for Delaware??? It’s up to Markell to seek the declaration from Obama. You’d think with Biden over there, it would be a done deal, but until the state comes up with a dollar amount for damages, nothing should be done at the state and local level, nor should private enterprise have to cough up the cash until the declaration is granted or denied in Washington.

EARTH TO MARKELL!! Put down your expense report for the European blizzard trip and start tallying up the damage assessments for Delaware following the major storm emergencies you missed! Uninsured or underinsured farmers and businesses that experienced roof collapses and other damage are hurting right now, and to reach out for them with much needed financial assistance might be a wise thing for you to do, if you are ever going to survive the storm of criticism that threatens to rain on YOUR re-election day parade.
