Avoid Smoking Material Related Fires

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office is reminding you to be careful when you throw away your smoking materials. Many recent fires in the state have been a result of smoldering remains of smoking materials on dry areas, like vegetation, flowers and mulch that spread to decks and into homes. The Fire Marshal urges you to smoke outside and away from your house and to have a sturdy ash tray nearby. Make sure your smoking materials are completely put out and cooled before you throw them away. If you have any questions on the issue, go to the Maryland State Fire Marshall website or Facebook page.
