Best Burger Blog
December 4th, 2006 by Dan GaffneyAn informal survey of about 50 callers this morning voted the honor of “Best Burgers on Delmarva†to Dewey Beach Club (DBC), Five Guys Burgers, and The Purple Parrot. Pay special attention to the DBC Gourmet Black and Blue burger; with blackened seasonings and blue cheese, for $ 9.50.   Five Guys gets good marks for “general everyday burger eatingâ€, (whatever that means!)  Five Guys will have a Lewes location opening next week.  The Purple Parrot on Rehoboth Avenue has some great burgers and a special “burger night†on Monday; a one pound burger with toppings and a side for only $ 6.00!

Hosts choice, for an out of the way and offbeat stop is the Milton Quick Stop, where they make the big burgers up ahead of time and leave them wrapped in foil under a light bulb. When you order they open it up and add your choice of toppings! Tip: If you are eating it in the car, leave off the tomato because the heat of the meat creates a juice drip problem. I’ve ruined two silk neckties this way!

IMHO, the best burger in Rehoboth/Dewey is the Dogfish Head. A cool 1/2 pound of fresh beef on ciabatta bread. Mmm…and only $5.00 on Mondays (at least in the off season). Add some beer fries, and you got yourself a meal.

The RoadHouse does a nice burger as does Irish Eyes.Looking forward to trying the Five Guys soon.As to Milton Quick stop,I heard from my son that they are very good. Seems to be true based on the number of vehicles there at lunchtime.

I like the burgers they make at Smitty Mc Gees( spelling might be wrong). It is in Fenwick Island on rt. 54. They make good chili too.

The Pit in Laurel does a good burger, but they’re hit and miss. When it hits it’s really good, when it misses, it’s so-so.

I agree tha the Dewey Beach Club has some of the best burgers around. While others such as Irish Eyes have good burgers, they use pre-formed patties. DBC uses ground beef and you can TASTE the difference!
I choose DBC for all-around best local food because of the unique offerings and excellent prices. The place is more like a home than a restaurant with the REAL Christmas Tree and fireplace burning on cool days.
