NFL Week #17 Predictions
December 28th, 2006 by PerryWeek #17, the final week of the season:
Giants @ Redskins: The ‘Skins are gelling and the Giants are falling, apart! However, this is a must win for the G-men, so I think they will squeak one through the Redskins porous defense. Giants
Browns @ Texans: Coming off of a big win over the Colts, I see the Texans continuing on a high against the lackluster Browns. Texans
Lions @ Cowboys: The ‘Boys were drilled last week by the Eagles who played a near perfect game. This is a must win for the ‘Boys, and they will win. Cowboys
Patriots @ Titans: The Pats have already clinched their division and home field advantage, but the Titans have a must win game at home. On paper, the Pats are the better team, but I think the Titans can rise to the occasion. Titans
Seahawks @ Bucs: In spite of their recent slide, it is hard to discount Holmgren’s Seahawks with Hasselbeck and Alexander weaponry. They need to prove themselves before the playoffs begin, and they will. Seahawks
Steelers @ Bengals: Roethlisberger has not been sharp; turnovers have killed the Steelers. Besides, the Bengals have a shot at a wild-card. Bengals
Raiders @ Jets: The Jets are by far the superior team to the hapless Raiders; they are on a roll, and need this win to get into the playoffs. Jets
Panthers @ Saints: Coming off an impressive win over the Giants last week, and with impressive offensive weapons, the Saints are in the playoffs, whereas the Panthers have to win this one for a playoff spot. I don’t think they are up to it, unless the Saints take a rest. Saints
Rams @ Vikings: A must win for the Rams against a rebuilding Vikings with a little tested QB. Rams
Jags @ Chiefs: Both teams need a win and some other help to make the playoffs. This one is a toss up; I’m going with the home team an Trent Green. Chiefs
Cardinals @ Chargers: The Cardinals can surprise with Leinert, but no way against the potent Chargers who, if they win, will be first seed in the playoffs. Chargers
49ers @ Broncos: Sea level to one mile high, and more snow too, no way for the 49ers, especially with a win putting the Broncos into the playoffs. Broncos
Falcons @ Eagles: Philly will be a madhouse on Sunday as the Eagles play to seal the NFC East title behind an equally crazy Jeff Garcia. Vick has never been up against this before, even though a win could possibly put the Falcons in the playoffs; I don’t see that happening. The Eagles played a near perfect game against the Cowboys last week, as they peak. Eagles
Dolphins @ Colts: The Colts have to prove to themselves that they can compete in the playoffs, so their putrid defense has to step up. The Colts offense will win anyway. Colts
Bills @ Ravens: The Ravens are my pick to win the Superbowl! A win will help, giving them home field advantage. Ravens
Packers @ Bears: The Bears have nothing to gain but their pride with a win, and I am not too sure how much pride there is the way their defense has been playing lately. On the other hand, the Packers defense has been improving, and Grossman has not steadied himself out yet. I’m predicting an upset by Favre & Co. Packers

My picks for week 17 (I will move this to the week 17 blog when it’s out)…
N.Y. Giants at Washington – Giants are vying for a playoff spot, ‘Skins are vying to go home. Take the Giants.
Carolina at New Orleans – The Saints are about to nail down a bye week. Take the Saints.
Cleveland at Houston – Until the Texans beat the Colts, I actually believed the Browns could win this one. Take the Texans.
Detroit at Dallas – Philly wins the division…take the Lions.
Jacksonville at Kansas City – In a non-playoff battle, where neither of these teams will make it, take the Jaguars.
New England at Tennessee – Could Tennessee actually go from the depths of despair to 9-7 ? Yes…take the Titans.
Oakland at N.Y. Jets – J-E-T-S…Jets, Jets, Jets. On to the playoffs…take the Jets.
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati – Again, from the depths of despair to 8-8…not a bad recovery, but too little too late…take the Steelers.
Seattle at Tampa Bay – Bad game, bad result…take the Buccaneers (and an 8-8 division title for Seattle)
St. Louis at Minnesota – They forgot how to play football in both these towns. Take the Rams.
Arizona at San Diego – San Diego takes home field with the best record in the NFL, and on to the Super Bowl. Take the Chargers.
Atlanta at Philadelphia – Philadelphia wins the division with a win over the hapless Falcons. Take the Eagles.
Buffalo at Baltimore – A good run for Buffalo is going to end short. Take the Ravens (they get the other bye).
Miami at Indianapolis – Interesting game, but the Colts still can’t tackle my grandma. Take the Dolphins.
San Francisco at Denver – Denver solidifies their wildcard showing. Had the Niners beat Arizona, I’d take the Niners, but since they didn’t, take the
Broncos.
Green Bay at Chicago – Will Green Bay make the playoffs ? No…take the Bears.

Carolina at New Orleans: WHO DAT SAY DEY GON’ BEAT DEM SAINTS!
Cleveland at Houston: HOUSTON
Detroit at Dallas: It wouldn’t surprise me if this one went the other way, but…COWBOYS!
Jacksonville at Kansas City: In KC? CHIEFS!
New England at Tennessee: Vince Young is on a roll. TITANS!
Oakland at N.Y. Jets: Puh-LEEZE! J-E-T-S! JETS, JETS, JETS!
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati: Another pick ‘em…BENGALS!
Seattle at Tampa Bay: SEATTLE!
St. Louis at Minnesota: VI-QUEENS!
Arizona at San Diego: CHARGERS!
Atlanta at Philadelphia: I’m never a fool twice-E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!
Buffalo at Baltimore: A tune-up before the playoffs- RAVENS!
Miami at Indianapolis: Indy has lost it’s swagger, and they’re not going to get it back today-DOLPHINS!
San Francisco at Denver: BRONCOS!
Green Bay at Chicago: The Gnats loss will pump up Favre and Co. They’ll be coming to the Lakeshore looking to get in the playoffs by beating us. The only thing better than whipping the Pickers is whipping the Pickers AND keeping them out of the post-season!
DAAAAA BEARS!!!!!

…but Perry went 11-5, and Dev went 7-9. So I ended-up in the middle.

7-9. This is why I didn’t win either of two championship games in fantasy football (my third team didn’t even make the playoffs).
Okay, the playoffs:
Kansas City at Indianapolis:
Dallas at Seattle:

D’oh! Wrong button!
As I was writing:
Kansas City at Indianapolis (4:00 pm, NBC): The Colts are at home, and have one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL. However, the Chiefs have a pretty good offense of their own, led by the incredible Larry Johnson. Since Indy can’t stop the run, and K.C. has a lousy pass defense, this could be a shootout. And shootouts favor Manning. My pick: Colts.
Dallas at Seattle (8:00 pm, NBC): Both of these teams are inconsistent, to put it mildly. I’m going to flip a coin here (Seattle gets heads), and pick: the Cowboys.
N.Y. Jets at New England (1:00 pm, CBS): Eric Mangini deserves Coach of the Year. This will be the third meeting between these two, and Belichick is too good a coach to let his disciple get the better of him at crunch time. My pick: Patriots.
N.Y. Giants at Philadelphia (4:00 pm, FOX): This is the easiest one to pick. The Eagles weren’t even supposed to have a winning season, yet here they are! The Gnats were supposed to dominate the NFC East, yet here they are. Sorry Tiki! My pick: Eagles.

I will defer on my playoff picks until Perry starts a new blog (preferably later in the week, like Thursday).

Will do, Pat, by Thursday for sure!
