Thank you for the link. I read some of the articles immediately and I'll follow up with the rest. It had some very interesting things to say about our food sources, melanoma and digestive diseases. VERY INTERESTING!

This is my conspiracy theory on the whole thing. I know its a little paranoid sounding. I've watched, since I was a little girl, the evolution of hormones and other foreign substances shoved into our food supply, not to mention the hybridized food. Is something that's really "round-up" ready, good for my body?? I'm not really sure that the generation before me experienced the vast amounts of altered food as I have experienced. With that being said, I really think our food supply (and it's alterations) have been the root cause of the explosion of illnesses that plague our society. Digestive chemistry indicates that most of the chemical impurities in our food, digest and collect in our fat globules. With more and more Americans becoming overweight and obese, does this now mean that more and more of us are carrying excessive amounts of poison in our bodies? What does that do to us on a daily basis? Cancer, diabetes, heart disease??

I saw a news article this morning, reporting that overweight girls are now hitting puberty earlier than their slenderer counterparts. The first thought into my head was ...excessive hormones = fat. Fat = physiological and biological complications. Maybe I'm nuts, but I really think that the answer to some of our obesity (and other health issues; young and old) are linked to the stuff they are cramming into our food supply.

Simply yet eloquently put, ...P

Man and Nature will bring back the hour
Of splendor from the grass and glory of the bower,
That new our farms will cultivate;
We will not grieve but rather find
New wealth, new health, new paradigms;
The time is ripe and not too late
For splendid herds and splendid yields
And splendid children born of splendid fields

Good post, Nancy, on a very important issue that we keep sweeping under the rug.

All you need know is one person who has been infected with a resistant bacterium, like my mother-in-law for one, and a good friend for another; then you can appreciate the concern about this issue. My m-i-l finally recovered, but continues in a weakened condition two years later. My friend continues the battle as we speak, as the infection continues to spread throughout her body unabated so far. Her life is in danger!

And then there is the 12 year old who died several days ago of an infection originating in a tooth that spread to his brain. Once diagnosed, the last minute efforts with antibiotic therapy failed completely.

The impact on humans of this new antibiotic for cattle has not even been studied, as I understand it. Therefore, what other conclusion can the public reach except that once again profits are being put first, health of humans last. The FDA has been weakened in the last six years, therefore needs an overhaul and needs to be empowered to address the interests of the American people!
