The John Atkins Re-Run (audio)
March 29th, 2007 by Jared MorrisYesterday on the program, a groundswell of support from the 41st regarding a possible re-run for JA led to today’s audio. On my show today, I spoke with Atkins about that very possibility.
Following the phoner, From my estimate, the majority of listeners in the 41st rang in with support for a possible re-run for Atkins.. To quote a text messager on my insider line: “The details of the electoin itself are one thing, then add Atkins and the people of the 41st envoking the ultimate democratic will by sending him back, priceless…..”
Listen, if you want to voice your support or dissent, The 41st District Republican Committee will be holding meeting at the Millsboro Civic Center this Saturday at 2:00P.M. - Now’s your chance to really be heard.
Now it’s up to you, 41st.

THE ATKINS DIET:
1. Drink Plenty of Fluids
2. Drive
3. Circumvent the law
4. Drive some more
5. Hit your spouse
6. Deny
7. Be Arrogant
8. Resign
9. Start over from #1.
This diet should be carefully monitored by a physician or skilled constituents.

The man sure has some big ones! Denial is not a river in Eygpt. It must be in the 41st.Curious as usual.

John Atkins running for the seat from which he just resigned?
Is this some kind of a terrible joke?
Were he to run, Mr Atkins would be making a mockery of the Delaware House of Delegates, his 41st District, and the Sussex County Republican Party.
Please, John, do not do this. Give yourself and your district a chance to digest the events since October. Give yourself, your family and your friends a chance to reset and move forward.
Perhaps the 2008 election cycle will allow you and yours enough time for the reset. Be patient and let the healing begin, while the anger and resentment you feel dissipates with more understanding and perspective on you the man, more than you can possibly have right now!

RUN JOHN RUN !!!

He has every right to run. If the citizens of the 41st re-elect him, then they get what they deserve.

You’re right, commonsense — just like Marion Barry down in Wash. DC!!

RUN JOHN RUN!!- but please don’t drink and drive………

I am a 41st district constituent and will be appalled if John runs again. I am unsure as to who these supporters are b/c 90% of those I have spoken to are thrilled that he finally made the right choice and resigned. I do want this man as my representative AGAIN!

I can’t believe we are even discussing the possibility of Atkins running again in this special election. ALthough he has done good work while in office, he has embarrassed himself, his wife, the local republican committee and certainly disgraced the 41st district. Is it any wonder the folks upstate think we are a bunch of goofy rednecks?
In his radio interview today, Atkins alternated between contrition for his acts and between blaming everybody except his dog for the situation he has found himself in. For those of us here locally (Millsboro) that directly or indirectly know John, there is no question that he straddles a fine line with his heavy use of alcohol. Until he decides to abstain from drinking I’m afraid he is a ticking time bomb, and the next explosion is apt to be more serious or even deadly. This is no longer a matter of forgiveness. Atkins struggles with the truth, and I believe that if he struggles with the truth, then he struggles with reality.

Goofy rednecks, more like morons as the posts in the News Journal are saying. This one must be the Pres. of the moron fan club:
Atkins is being crucified
“Let ye who have not sinned, turn the first stone.â€
The reporters, local news and television have thrown enough stones at Representative John Atkins.
He is a fine young man from a respected family and what has been done to him in his young political life is like a crucifixion.
We, in Millsboro hope this will cease and he can go on doing his good work. Did any of us ever do anything wrong? “I think so.†Someone wants his job and for his family’s sake, I hope he stays in office and all the citizens of Millsboro hope so, too. It is not in our nature to “blackball†our neighbor.
We, in Millsboro, take care of our own, and we are noted by new comers for being a peaceful community and we hope to keep it that way.
Sincerely,
For all concerned,
Alice Powell Hudson

Another shining example for our young people to follow.Someone to look up to and emulate(sp?).As a parent, I taught my now adult children that you make decisions in life and then you live with the consequences of those decisions. But today we learn that you don’t need to do that. Drive drunk, use your position of influence to avoid charges, mishandle your wife, lie to the public on the radio, presumably coerce your babysitter to lie for you, then resign only to comeback blaming it all on other circumstances.Have we totally given up to accepting respondsibily for our actions?Curious as usual.Lets hope all this support we are hearing about in the 41st is a small minority of voters who refuse to face reality.

Let’s elect a state rep who will work for a cleaner, healthier Sussex County.
Millsboro is home to Delaware’s single worst polluter & one of the Nation’s worst polluters–the Indian River Power Plant.
NRG the plant’s owner has sued the state refusing to comply with the DNREC cleanup regulation 1146.
We are collecting signatures on a petition asking Delaware to enforce the regulation.
For all of us, please go to
http://abettersussex.com/
and sign the petition.
Thanks!

What a joke! This entire ordeal is sicking! I cannot believe that Mr. Morris feels that former Rep. Atkins got the raw end of the deal… HAHA. John Atkins was given HIS second chance when he was let go by O.C. police on that October night. He used up his second chance when he continued to drive home that night from the bar in Fenwick Island. I am just thankful that he did not kill someone during his drive home. By Atkins running again I agree with others saying it “would be a slap in the face.” That is his way of saying… I have done nothing wrong. Those of you who support him… you may need to take a step back and deeply evaluate your thinking… what if your family member had been seriously injured or killed by a drunk driver? I am positive your opinion would be MUCH different.
