macb ~ I am saying that I didn't believe that America was prepared to elect a female president. I actually thought that Hillary's run was to be an effort to break down that barrier and pave the way for women in the future.

Knowing what I do of Hillary, I think her ideas are far to socialistic to be accepted by thinking Americans. But then there's the rub, not so many thinking Americans as I thought. This also explains why Giuliani is doing so well.

You are right when you say we're headed down the path to bread lines, sooner or later. I have long held that this country must first be brought to it's collective knees before we can become what we once were and in that respect I held my breath and voted for Bush last time around while silently hoping Kerry would win and get us there sooner! The longer we draw this out, the longer it will be before we're great again.

kingcrab ~ Do you really think I don't understand Rush's tongue in cheek humor? Have you ever heard me on the air? I listened to Limbaugh every weekday from 1989 through 1994 and the I was an occasional listener due to a work change from then until 2000. Now, I listen once in a while. I read his book "The Way Things Ought To Be". Do you think I don't understand him? You would be dead wrong if you do.

Nowadays I listen to him and see through his hollow taunts. Yes, I think he has some valid points and I generally agree with his stances on many subjects. He also reminds me of things I forgot when certain politicians attack the right, but he's not the only voice out there any more and I think he's lost his sense of fairness in favor of party politics. This is what bothers me the most. It should be about who is doing a good job, not whether there's an "R" or a "D" next to their name.

Rush isn't always right but he does make me think and that's why his listeners are so loyal and interesting and his show is entertaining and enlightening. If you would listen more often to Rush, you would realize that his boastings and bragging are tongue in cheek or a poke in the ribs to his enemies to get a rise out of them.

Are you saying that prior to this you didn't think Hillary had a chance? I find that hard to believe. I suspect more books have already been written about her potential candidacy than any other potential candidate in history.

If there were really a resurgence of individualism in this country she wouldn't have a chance, but there isn't. people want more government, not less (but they often lie about it in public). People with green doors and window frames want a government that will subsidize green doors and window frames, and penalize any who don't have same.

The brilliance of the Democrat party is that they can convince so many special interest groups that they will take care of them, somehow, magically, without stepping on the toes of people who have contrary interests. People here WANT to believe in this fantasy, and I'm becoming convinced that until we have breadline conditions that the Soviets had, few here will appreciate that variety, choice, freedom are worthwhile objectives, even if they don't make life for everyone perfect. The time is coming, almost here really, when the only job worth having, for ordinary people anyway, will be a government job. Total benefits, total security, pensions that can be passed on to your relatives when you die.

Votes for Hillary (takes a village) will get us there sooner. Votes for whoever the Republicans run will get us there later. But unless the dynamic changes (and I'm at a loss to see how) we (or our children) will get there sooner or later. Get used to it.
