More Troubling Than The Global Warming
July 3rd, 2007 by Maria EvansAn Ipsos Mori poll taken in June about global warming had some interesting results. Apparently 56% of people felt global warming wasn’t as troublesome as a few other things:
The survey suggested that terrorism, graffiti, crime and dog mess were all of more concern than climate change.

Al Gore’s attempt to assassinate the planet is just 4 days away.
What? People are more concerned about stepping in dog poop than the global warming? Let’s see if those numbers change after Al Gore’s attempt to assassinate the planet on July 7, when his “Live Earth” concert may put around a million extra cars on the road.

Maria,
Why do you feel the need to ridicule someone who is trying to do something good?
Far too often, when others try to make a positive change in the world, others simply poke fun from the sidelines.
While Gore’s concert will probably put cars on the road, the benefits of the concert will far outweigh any damage done by the automobiles. Plus, concert organizers are doing everything they can to ensure that the concerts themselves will have little environmental impact. But why trouble yourselves with the facts when you can make dumb jokes?
Gore has been working tirelessly promoting something that everyone should be able to agree on – stopping harm to the planet. Unlike many former vice presidents, he has been extremely busy, working to make a positive change to the world.
What has Dan Quayle done lately?
We should applaud his efforts, but instead, people make sophomoric jokes.
Why does it always seem to be Republicans who make fun of someone’s charitable efforts?

Lefty, if Al Gore wanted to do “something good” for the environment he’d stick to movies instead of jamming up the roads across the globe for rock concerts. Think about it, ONE MILLION people are expected in Rio alone, that’s at least what? 250 thousand cars, sitting in traffic for ONE VENUE? And my “jokes” are far less “sophomoric” than Al Gore trying to look cool by having a big rock concert.
And regardless of how “green” their plans are, rock concerts create trash. And sitting in traffic to see a rock concert causes greenhouse gas emissions. And offsetting with carbon credits is a cop out. I want to make that clear. If people buying carbon credits really wanted to save the planet, they’d stop their polluting AND the companies they PAY TO NOT POLLUTE FOR THEM would cut their emissions without having to be paid for it…but I guess we can’t impose on people like Al Gore. By the way, why not just have the concert on the Internet? Less cars on the road that way….
What exactly ARE the benefits of the concerts? Making people more aware of global warming? I have news for you, Roger Daltry is right, the only people who aren’t aware of global warming are the people not contributing to it.
And Lefty, GW created the World’s Largest Marine Reserve, IKE established the ANWR, Nixon the EPA, and even our National Parks are something you can thank Republicans for…but please, don’t trouble yourself with those facts.

I think the biggest environmental problem we have is that Gore is going to eat that final after dinner mint and explode. With all the “caring” people that surround him can’t one of them get him to stop stuffing his face?
He’s the primary one making a fortune on this issue so far. I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him, a distance getting shorter by the mouthful.

“And Lefty, GW created the World’s Largest Marine Reserve, IKE established the ANWR, Nixon the EPA, and even our National Parks are something you can thank Republicans for…but please, don’t trouble yourself with those facts.” ==> Maria Evans
Oh sure, it was all Republicans, right! Whatever! Who is it who has done his best to tear away at these environmentally important functions the last few years? And what party too? Certainly not the Republicans!
Moreover, I agree with Lefty about your demonization of Al Gore. When you folks cannot make a valid point on an issue, you attack the person.
There is no comparison in involvement between attending a rock concert in person and something on the internet. Any music lover or sports fan will attest to that.
You are right about the pollution from cars, but you ignore the exponential magnification impact that emanates from those attending a live concert for a cause. An example is Woodstock, but then you are too young to appreciate the impact of that event, Maria, both the positives and the negatives.
So again, Maria: “Why do you feel the need to ridicule someone who is trying to do something good?” ==> Lefty

I made a valid point about “Live Earth.” So did Roger Daltry and Bob Geldof. Remember Bob Geldof? He organized the biggest fundraising and awareness concerts in history? This is what Geldof had to say about it:
And it WAS Republicans who did ALL of that, Perry. What have Democrats done? They even ALL, yes ALL voted against ratifying Kyoto in 1997. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. And we’ve been over this before, 8 years of Clinton and very little was done environmentally, if anything. Most of what his administration did was pass the buck to the NEXT administration.
What Gore did with “An Inconvenient Truth” was helpful. “Live Earth” is just Gore stroking his ego.

If he stopped all of this grandstanding perhaps he could help his son.
Guess he finds his son is an inconvenient youth.
