The End Is Near But There Is A Bright Side

If Al Gore is right about the global warming, he’s pointing a loaded gun at the Earth right now.

“Live Earth” is here! Al Gore’s worldwide rock concert event/assassination plot, is expected to draw about TWO BILLION attendees/viewers worldwide. That translates into possibly a MILLION extra cars and busses, jammed in traffic on roadways across the planet, creating an explosion of greenhouse gas emissions (that Gore feels threaten us all), while simultaneously creating more trash than any of us could ever conceive.

But there is a bright side, Gore is so busy trying to kill the planet, he doesn’t have time to run for President:

“I’m involved in a different kind of campaign to try to raise awareness of what I truly believe is the most serious crisis our civilization has ever faced.”

Yes, Al, raise the global warming awareness by dramatically increasing the factors that you think cause it…genius…I can’t believe you lost Florida to GW.

UPDATE: OTHER PEOPLE HAVE FIGURED OUT THAT LIVE EARTH WILL KILL THE PLANET!

The most conservative assessment of the flights being taken by its superstars is that they are flying an extraordinary 222,623.63 miles between them to get to the various concerts - nearly nine times the circumference of the world. The true environmental cost, as they transport their technicians, dancers and support staff, is likely to be far higher.

The total carbon footprint of the event, taking into account the artists’ and spectators’ travel to the concert, and the energy consumption on the day, is likely to be at least 31,500 tonnes of carbon emissions, according to John Buckley of Carbonfootprint.com, who specialises in such calculations.

Throw in the television audience and it comes to a staggering 74,500 tonnes. In comparison, the average Briton produces ten tonnes in a year.

The concert will also generate some 1,025 tonnes of waste at the concert stadiums - much of which will go directly into landfill sites.

The article is a little lengthy but well worth the read.

  1. Perry Says:

We are fortunate to have a prominent man like Al Gore dedicating himself to spreading the scientific consensus concerning the threat of global warming.

Yes, it is unfortunately true that some of the logistics involved in arranging these concerts produce a surge in greenhouse gas emissions. The concert producers are doing all they can to be as green as possible, according to the producer Joe Levy of Rolling Stone. Moreover, I view this as an investment.

After all, the expected audience world wide is 2 billion, almost a third of the global population. I wonder if George W Bush will be watching?

“We are the World, We are the children.” ooops! wrong song for wrong cause.

  3. Nancy Cleveland Says:

I agree with Perry on this one…”The More You Know” and is there a better way to inform mass conscientiousness than a global concert? Sure, most will likely tune in just to see/hear their favourite bands but perhaps..and hopefully…their awareness will be heightened. I’d suggest that something like this serves more purpose than occasional soundbites followed by media ridicule and mockery.

  4. Hube Says:

Heh. Sorry Nance/Perry. The people didn’t buy tickets, didn’t tune in on TV and even left early FROM the concerts ’cause, frankly, they sucked. And the main reason: People don’t give a shit. They recognize that Gore is full of it by making the whole premise of climate change a “man-made catastrophe.”

Not to mention that the “carbon footprint” of these concerts was huge. Virtually no steps were taken to make these events “greenhouse effect unfriendly”! What a laugh.

  5. Nancy Cleveland Says:

It wasn’t a money-maker concert, Hube and it doesn’t take an entire 2 billion to change the world. Only takes a relative few to nudge the mass consciousness and I’d much rather see money spent on something like this than dumping billions a month into something that never should have been. “Be the change you want to see in the world”. I’ll opt for “LIVE Earth”.

I’m with Hube and Maria in concept, I also agree that no cum-baya is going to change peoples habits. My husband watched it and I most certainly know that he did not recycle his beer bottle today! I guess I’ll have to be the responsible one and haul the thing into work tomorrow so I can toss it into the recycling bin.

Does it count as an open beverage container?
