An American Post

October 31st, 2007 by Bill Colley

A dispatch from Franco’s Spain on Delmarva.  Last night I attempted to watch the Democrat’s debate.  Why does this political party have its own cable network?  Is this the balance to the scourge known as Fox News Channel?  I managed about twenty minutes of uninterrupted time before the telephone calls.  Friends, two of them telephoned last night, both Republicans and neither had any interest in the debate.  I was on the telephone until 11:00 and then went to bed and it appears I missed Hillary’s doublespeak and the space cadet remarks from Karl Marx, uh, Kucinich.

Joe Scarborough filled me in this morning about what was missed.  Then I drove to Georgetown, where I discovered the DMV isn’t open Wednesday mornings.  Is this because the workers there are Democrats and had the night off to toast their candidates?  I’m guessing they got all slopped up and were still leering at the moon at 3:00 A.M.  If the lefties win next year will the DMV be closed for one week in celebration?

Some folks have telephoned the program and are asking about my hometown.  It figures in a few stories I’ve shared and where people come from can clearly assist in moral formation.  Say, for example, you come from a small insignificant rock dominated by a neighboring second rate power.  Say your homeland could best be described as England’s “bitch”.  A land where men wear skirts and people gorge themselves on sheep bladders filled with oatmeal and the minced heart, liver and lungs of the animal.  Then you’re going to be formed with a belief the world owes you a living and socialized medicine.

My hometown was a different place.  Settled by people who carved a great power out of a wilderness.  The kind of folks who three times in the past century saved all those second, third and fourth rate morally barren lands.  My people don’t expect much in return.  They rise early and get the job done and they don’t need government to play mommy and daddy and bandage their bruises.

At some point I’ll post a couple of hometown photographs at the website.  These were taken by a talented young woman.  She operates a photographer’s studio back home and I’d like to alert people to her work.  The young woman’s name is Shannon Halsaver.  The winter photograph is my work.

I’ll note that as a kid growing up in a land nearly as perfect as Andy Griffith’s Mayberry that we lacked multicultural education.  We were all just American’s.  This included people from all ethnic backgrounds.  Most of them never gave any thought to being a hyphenated citizen until someone came along and told them that’s what they were.  Even then most of them would’ve considered the messenger a bit loopy.  It’s funny how that occurs in a small town.  The measure of anyone is how they apply themselves to their work.  There are just 2 types of people, the producers and the leaches.  Color, faith and the spelling of a last name isn’t a relevant factor for judgment.

Europeans looking for a free ride can’t understand.

Let me postulate my own scientific theory.  Folks who packed up and left Europe before the comfortable jet age were genetically curious and those surviving the long ocean voyage were physically the best.  No matter what ethnicity they assigned themselves.  Now generations later we’ve the offspring of the best.  Americans are stronger, brighter and far more adventurous than the fearful and weak peoples of Europe.  You could call us the MRSA of the human race.

You know, Mr. Bill, I didn’t realise you were a comedian so I apologize for taking you so seriously.

Anyway, let’s get a couple of things clear for you and your fan club out there. I am Scottish…and proud of it…and I have not lived in these United States for “around fifteen years”. Been more like thirty, not counting the years lived on US navy bases around the globe. I’d get you to ask my husband, to whom I was married for 32yrs., how “henpecked” he was but he died some years ago (and I didn’t kill him). He’d probably tell you, as he did many people when asked why he married a Scot, “Because I didn’t want a subservient doormat for a wife.”

Apparently what you think you know about Scots and Scotland would fill less than a dram glass. (And I’d guarantee the “distaff’ side of your family, being Scots, were not the sort to walk three paces behind, either but leading the way). For someone who has just implied your “folks” never would think of being a hyphenated citizen, you certainly proclaim you “Scots-Irish” lineage often enough. Presumable that makes you as loopy as the rest. As to saving the skins of the Europeans…again, a comedian…LOL! The First World War the U.S. didn’t enter, officially, until 1917 and the surrender of Russia. Prior to then there were Americans and Canadians fighting as members of the British forces…I’ll let you figure out why. WW11…officially coming in after Pearl Harbour was attacked but, again, many young men of this country took it upon themselves to enlist in European forces before then. Lastly, I am a Scot but a proud citizen of this country of thirty years…almost as long as yourself but I chose to be one, it wasn’t an accident of birth.

Let’s take up the question of this comfortably shod, brie munching, cabernet sipping woman calling you all sorts of “horrible names”. I likened you to a male chauvinist… refresh our memories of the others. I could care less if you want to pad out your show with whatever comments I make to your posts…just seems a bit odd that I respond to your posts because I read each day’s blog, yours included, and comment if something strikes me (isn’t the ’Comments’ note what differentiates a blog from an editorial?) But if you are using it to fill dead air don’t you think you should at least provide all of each comment(s)…i.e. I may have hurt your feelings or plucked a nerve but I have also agreed with some of your comments on a particular subject. Hmmm…well, I can see your point, I suppose. That wouldn’t look too good, now, would it….maybe a tad embarrassing to admit that a “liberal” kook, of all things, saw/concurred whatever point you were trying to make.

And if you took the time to read the other blog authors rather than just your own, you would find nobody…not I or anyone else, has singled you out with whom to agree or disagree.

We’re all assuming, Bill, that of the two types of people you described, you are the latter?

  3. EdwinAnthony Says:

Bill, you’re way to funny! I heard that all the folks at DMV kept it closed because they knew you were coming. You have to know that all those Democrats at DMV are sitting around guzzling beer and laughing at all those hard working, moral, Christian Republicans and or so they hype on the FOX Noise channel. I agree Bill, it’s way to ‘funny’ when you hear about all those sexual deviants from this RIGHTEOUS Neo-Con base that play patty cake in bathroom stalls and or use their Dial-a-Pro.

You’re also right about the ONE-(1) party system that rules this country. However the money flows will win the elections and or votes casted in Congress. Right now the money is flowing against all those immoral loonies that sit on the right. Either way, big business, hired killers, unqualified war in Iraq, torture and domestic spying will continue to win the day. It’s all about MONEY for Power and Control at any cost. Folks won’t find honesty in politics and if they do find a ‘righteous’ individual like Ron Paul, they will be trashed by both parties. War and Killing is a thriving business for the top two-(1) cowards that run this government.

Bill: get a clue. Motor Vehicle has been open on wednesday hours for the last 34 years that I have been going. It makes it easier on the working man. Stop making every word out of your mouth a liberal thing. You were intresting your first week, now you make Ann Coulter and Bill Rogers enjoyable. YUK! You think more Repubs in office would be better? Ask about John Atkins and Barney Fife Sherriff Reed. Some Dems are not that bad, some Repubs are not that bad. I prefer Independent; pick the best candidate, not the party. Take off your blinders Bill, there are enough extremist on both sides!

  5. EdwinAnthony Says:

Bill, it’s also way to funny when more and more of these so called ‘righteous right’ are caught hang out in the bathrooms and or running around the halls of Congress chasing little boys for sexual gratitude. This ‘righteous right’ will protect Americans is the biggest joke of all. Democrats and Republican practice ‘hypocrisy’ for money and power to rule.

When all these ‘SNOWFLAKES’ fall from the current administration; Americans will be viewing the most corrupt, deceptive administration in Our history. If tens of thousand weren’t killed, maimed and or tortured, it would be real funny. If a trillion dollars weren’t spent on a ‘war for oil spigots in Iraq’ and another 50 billion for US-domestic spying, it would be hilarious. Americans should never forget the so called ‘righteous right’ claim of: “Iraqi Oil is gonna pay for this war!” As the ‘SNOWFLAKES’ fall, Americans will view: “Lies laced with more Lies from the so called righteous right lead by hypocritical liars and sexual deviants!”

This much I do know: “If America Is To Have A real future; We Must Elect A President and Congressional Body That Speaks For The People with honesty. Try focusing on all these LOONIES from both hypocritical Parties because the GOP has several starting right there at the top with Bush and Cheney!

Leaches, correct spelling is “leeches”. One meaning of the word is “a follower that hangs around a host (without benefit to the host) in hope of gain or advantage”. Amazingly enough, that is a description of your programming recently.

As a dialogue this is so surreal it’s abstract. I’m reminded of Vonnegut’s MOTHER NIGHT, in which a man learned he had done so much for the side he opposed.

  8. RonR Says:

I have to say, though, in Bill’s defense, nice photos!

  9. Bill Colley Says:

My spelling and grammar program had issues with leaches. Call Bill Gates.

  10. bucksmom Says:

I will do just that, maybe he will be more polite……
