The Match Quiz

The above link is a Gannett company quiz naming some issues and providing matches with candidates.  There are many of these surveys available and you can get wildly divergent responses through the questions asked.  For an example the Gannett/USA Today quiz has no questions about abortion.  This is an issue very dear to many voters.  Any such quiz can likely be limited in scope if just a few questions are posed.

My matches are Ron Paul, Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney, in that order.  Romney is replaced by Giuliani by tweaking rankings of some issues just slightly.  Giuliani made the mix because of some shared views about the war.  Paul would’ve ranked higher with me but for disagreement on some war issues.  Paul still came out ahead because of shared interests about health care and income tax.  He believes marriage is a state issue and I favor that change as I question why government is even involved in what was once only a church matter.

I’ve also found common ground with Paul on the subject of immigration.

In another recent Presidential survey Tom Tancredo was my match.  Since his withdrawal from the contest, Mr. Tancredo isn’t included in this particular survey.

No suprise my first match is Ron Paul. Bill Richardson as second was..is…a surprise to me all the way round as is Chris Dodd but Paul beats those two roundly…particularly on the “war” issue, next health care. We can work on the others.

  2. bucksmom Says:

I am surprised–thought Hilary would be your choice. ha ha

  3. Nancy Cleveland Says:

LOLOL! Probably surprised a few people, Bucksmom (even myself at times…lol). Nope, been leaning more and more toward Libertarian since about ten years ago and Paul is the closest we’ve had.

  4. commonsense Says:

See Mr. Colley, THIS is an interesting blog posting.

  5. Bill Colley Says:

Look at it this way, you’ve nearly put 2 sentences together. See also that Nancy uses a real name. She’s got courage, unlike most people making posts.

  6. bucksmom Says:

Okay, Mr. Bill–My first name is Mary. Would you like to know my last name, address and telephone number also. What if my last name were hyphenated, what if I wore comfortable shoes, suppose just maybe I drank Cabernet, surely I must have “problems at home”, according to your overview of a woman’s opinion that you do not agree with. If you knew all this information about me would it make my thoughts more credible in your opinion??? Now, do you think that counts as courage???

  7. Bill Colley Says:

I spend 4 hours each day putting my opinions out there. Maybe it’s why I get the paycheck. Folks know where to find me. It’s terribly easy to play critic behind a mask. True courage is standing out front and taking the heat. It isn’t very common in the internet age. I may disagree at times with Nancy but I sure have a lot of respect for her and she’s everything that Rick and some of the regular callers have told me about her. A fine and upstanding person. I believe God calls us to speak not because our words will always be welcome but because it tests our faith (courage). Cabernet? I’m having a Shiraz this evening (7.99 at Back Bay).

  8. bucksmom Says:

Enjoy your wine this evening, Mr. Bill. I will be having a cold beer. 16.99 a 30 pack at Fenwick Liquors…

  9. Bill Colley Says:

Let me bring forth a caveat. It isn’t called tea-time. It’s called talk radio. It isn’t a social club. For the most part the people involved on my end have been involved in it for many, many years. It always surprises me when people think it’s supposd to be a broadcast forumn along the lines of a school board meeting. And how many people attend board meetings? Enough said there. Drop a microphone into a coffee or tea social and we’ll be asking if a tree falls in the forest…

  10. joemomma Says:

Courage? Typical answer. Don’t hold a conversation… just beat down on anything except talk about the issues. Can’t call Democrats Democrats.. got to call them liberals. Is your name as important as the issues at hand?
Bill, where is your bio on the home page? You have been spouting garbage since you first got down here, but has of yet to show your picture or your bio as other personalities have. Little on the heavy side, or just making a whistle stop at GMD?

BTW, my name is Joe and I live in the Woods on Herring Creek, Lewes. Independent, 50 years old, native Delawarean, employed, married 30 years, adjusted gross income $96,000, one child 28 years, enjoy fishing and billiards, member of American Legion post 28, bank with WSFS for 32 years, printer by trade, wife in the medical field
Catholic, but not praticing due to belief that all man made religions on earth are nothing more then a cult. Believe in Jesus Christ only. Ok Bill, does that suit your requirements , my courage, can we talk?

For some unknown reason, you have a way as Gaffney and others in your field to browbeat anybody that calls in and cannot be quick with responses and express themselves as well as people that spend a lifetime in the communications field. Others, like myself, have opinions that may not flow to your guys liking: hence the blog or the opinion sections of the paper.

Sorry you cannot accept the way people wish to communicate with you, may I suggest you practice these simple words in a new venue,
“Thank you for coming to Walmart”.

  11. bucksmom Says:

Joemomma, you sound like a very nice and intelligent person. I thoroughly enjoyed and agree with your entire post and thanks……

  12. Bill Colley Says:

“I am the way”, said the Lord. Not Siddhartha, Muhammad nor 96,000 to 98,000 dollars a year. Joe and Mary and Jimmy are all fine but still aren’t full identities. Just the “handles” of the pompous left, the people walking into a crowded room and believing they happen to be the smartest people there. You smarties may also notice the website is an arm of the radio company. When we want to attract moths we turn on a lamp.

  13. joemomma Says:

Thank you bucksmom, you are kind in your words.

As for you, Mr Colley, you still are more concerned about “full identities” and calling us the pompous left then you are about the issues at hand.

We “smarties” as you elude to do not believe we are the smartest in the room. We just believe intellegent conversation without attacks of character and name calling.

Let’s try something , Bill I’ll do it real s l o w so that you can understand:

Independent……… Not a flaming liberal or a right wing nut conservative, Has the ability to see both sides… willing to work with both sides……Not buffaloed by either party…
Don’t give a hoot if your name is not really Bill Colley.

Btw: Whens the Bio coming with picture?

  14. bucksmom Says:

First of all, who is Jimmy? Secondly, maybe we “pompous lefties” will get a chance to see your picture and bio on the radio’s website shortly. I am certainly smart enough to realize that the website is “the arm of the radio company”. When some people turn their lights on, they attract roaches.

  15. bucksmom Says:

Just how do you know that Nancy Cleveland’s real name is not Susan Dallas? I would love to meet her one of these days. She sounds like a wonderful person. So, in order to earn your respect Mr. Bill, we must agree with you on everything and also disclose our names to you. You do realize that you are the only host on WGMD that has ever asked the caller to “give me a name and where are you calling from” . I guess that is because if someone disagrees with you on the air, you can continue to bash them long after they have hung up.

  16. Perry Says:

Bill, you have stooped mighty low with your ad hominem attacks. Why this instinct of yours to insult people with the idiocy you just expressed?

  17. macb Says:

    Paul, Giuliani, Thompson

I was surprised Giuliani made my list at all.

I do not recommend to people that they use their real names on the Internet. Such is very risky behavior, just as posting your e-mail address would be.

People who earn their living in the media have to use their real name (although at least some use a pen name).

There may yet come a day when people are persecuted, and I mean really persecuted, for having certain opinions. No need to make it easy for them to find you. If you think that is far fetched, then just consider harassing phone calls rocks through your windows, things like that, which have actually happened to people in this area after posting on the Internet.

  18. Nancy Cleveland Says:

Macb’s right and, Mr. Bill, you’re not the first person to…umm…nitpick about nom-de-plumes. Even some (previous) forum posters would question it but few were willing to respond with our legal names and I was one of them. I finally began using my legal name (and it is my real one, Bucksmom :) I promise.) when I was blogging here and for reasons which I’ve already mentioned before. But while in business and having been threatened with myself being thrown through my store window…without benefit of forum, blog or any such thing…just simply being honest about myself…and on a few occasions had what even Dan perceived to be threats to me on the forum (even while using an alias), surely however we post, however we come in here makes no difference as long as we continue to show up? Some people like to call…when they give you a name you have no assurance they aren’t giving you the first name comes to mind…ditto with from where they may be calling (unless you have caller ID). Myself, other than the few occasions aforementioned, I suppose one could say I’ve been fortunate in my internet experiences but it comes down to comfort level, also. Push people hard enough, or make ‘rules’ that they have to divulge legal name and forums, blogs and call-ins could go down the drain pretty quickly. Then what?

  19. Bill Colley Says:

Just spell my name the way it appears. I’ll grant the lack of last names. Some wouldn’t want calls at home. Serious discussion of the issues? This is how the opposition opens it’s calls:

George Bush is an idiot and Dick Cheney is evil. Now let’s have a serious and enlightened talk.

This is talk radio folks, not the town billboard or Face The Nation. It’s rough and tumble and the verbal equivalent of pro-wrestling. From what I can see there are 5 of you liberals and independents in the county and all of you post here. You’re vastly overwhelmed by the right minded. I’m not violating any sacred radio trust by saying there is radio for your kind at 90.7 FM. Lot’s of breathily liberal engaging talk about recipes, Iran and Iraq.

  20. bucksmom Says:

Just how can you determine our political beliefs because of the way we feel about you, Bill? We are always free to listen to you in spite of your recommending we change the radio dial. We are also free to use the blog as millions of people do every day around the country. It does not make us bad people, Bill, just good local people who happen to disagree with you and in your mind, that is a mortal sin……

  21. Perry Says:

Right, Bill, anybody who objects to Bush’s/Cheney’s tyranny and lawlessness ought to just pack their bags and go to France. I’ve heard this cowardly litany and the like over and over. Did you dutifully give up your french fries too, Bill?

I’m up for a good debate of the issues, and I enjoy listening to a good storyteller. But the on-air insults and ad hominems, they detract from debates and storytelling! Don’t you see that Bill?

Frankly, I don’t know how anyone can stand the propagandist garbage, demonizations and yelling that surrounds your show. That’s well beyond simple “rough and tumble”! WGMD ought to be ashamed!

And yes, you won’t find such on 90.7, just the opposite, an intelligent presentation of the issues from every side, for anyone interested in being informed. I recommend it!

  22. commonsense Says:

Heard you on the radio today, Bill. How do you know I don’t call into the show? You and I might have already shared plenty of laughs on the radio or in person, at liberals’ expense. I am one of the more frequent posters here, yet you lumped us all together as Independents and Liberals. For the millionth time, I’m a Conservative. I would much rather spend my time arguing with a well-informed, intellectually honest liberal, who i can’t agree with about anything, than chat with a parroting, sloppy, illogical like minded conservative. We agree about the issues, mr. colley, you just make boring, incoherent, and incomplete blog posts.

A picture of our Bill Colley:

  23. joemomma Says:

William…william..william. You make me laugh. To believe that we are overwelmed by the right minded is a hoot. I am overwhelmed with the fact that there are still ignorant right minded folks out ther that still believe it’s my way or the highway.

I can tell from your writings that you didn’t share your cookies in kindergarden. You are a very mad person. I believe anger manangment would be appropriate for you. I do feel sorry that you believe its that “rough and tumble” in your profession.

As for GW being and idiot as you quote callers start, this is their opinion. Is this a Flaming liberal, communist wacko, could even be a disgruntled Rebulican. Who cares? It’s talk radio. People are talking.

Talk the issues, Bill. Your vocabulary is focused on downgrading the caller who does not agree with you.

As for 90.7, you may get your wish, as intellegaent listeners will turn off 92.7 for the 3-7 hour.

  24. bucksmom Says:

Mr. Bill, I heard you yesterday on your radio show WHINING about the “5 posters” who are disagreeing with you and treating you unkindly. How juvenile !!!

  25. Bill Colley Says:

ZZZZZZzzzzzzz. Like moths to a flame, two dozen posts on this link. Catalyst and response. And you people claim you’ve got it all figured out?

  26. joemomma Says:

ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz Click. The sound of the radio moving to another station. But I will be back. I’ll check out 90.7 and give an update. JOEMOMMA out.
