“Goodman has been principal at Sussex Central for just under two years and Indian River School District officials say his background check was clean.” Does it matter if one’s background check is clean? Obviously if someone applying for the position of school principal has a criminal history, this might get some people worried, but how do you know if there aren’t any hidden issues that might come to the surface later? Many parents are probably wondering–”Who can you trust?” I heard one on-air caller the other day say that District employees such as Goodman should get a psychiatric evaluation before getting hired. It doesn’t sound like a bad idea.

A couple of months ago the radio station purchased a Flip Video Camera (http://www.theflip.com/products.shtml)– I thought the concept was pretty cool — a handheld digital video camera that plugs right into the USB port on your computer, on-click video, good audio quality, easy storage, no tapes or mini-DVDs, it records up to an hour and only requires two double A batteries.. Now, I’ve read some pretty bad reviews of the Flip, Apparently around Christmas a bad shipment of Flips went out to Bestbuy.com and to Walmart — in fact, the first one that the station purchased was defective…

Yesterday, I decided that the benefits outweigh the bad reviews.. every review on BestBuy.com was either 5 stars or 1 star… an odd combination.. and I threw caution to the wind and bought my own. They cost around $120 dollars and they are indeed easy to use, compact and just amazing (I say this now, but, we’ll see if it lasts down the line.) I often need a video camera to tape live performances, radio clips and just things of general interest… One of my hobbies outside of work is editing video.. I worked for 8 months on a video project converting old VHS and 8mm cam tapes to digital files and finally to iPod ready videos (which was actually a few step process.. 1. copy the vids to DVD 2. rip the DVD into computer (need DVD ripping software) 3. edit the digital videos to more compact cleaner versions (needs video editing software and Audio mixing/Mastering software). 4. Finally convert videos to iPod ready M4P format videos… (needs another special program to convert) — A difficult and time consuming process, especially when you’re using a PC with clunky software.. The Flip Video allows you to edit the videos you shoot and saves them right to iPod ready videos.. It’s quite simple.. Now the video I’ll post below was actually filmed live in the studio with The Flip, but the audio was superimposed over the clip from a direct line out of our radio console.. So the audio here will be slightly better than what you’d acheive with The Flips built in mic, but, I did it this way to show you the great quality video and audio you can possibly acheive with a few very simple steps. i only used the camera and Windows Movie Maker combined with Adobe Audition to record the actual audio line out. Then a quick upload to youtube and you’re ready to go. The actual quality of the saved videos are much better than the youtube version, but if you are a frequent youtube user, than you’ll notice the familiar youtube wash over the video.

Did Dana Goodman the Sussex Central Principal charged with 30 counts of rape of a minor, have a problematic past at other schools?  I keep hearing it, but have no proof.

I did find some online buzz about him in Dorchester County claiming he had a sketchy work history.

It’s been a wild ride this week for Sussex Central High School Principal Dana Goodman.

First, Principal Goodman was caught making off color sexual innuendo jokes at a school assembly in front of the students, (cracks about the vice principal’s wife staying home pregnant with Goodman’s baby, and remarks about whether the Principal or Vice Principal would escort the “homely” girls to prom) Principal Goodman issue a formal apology for those jokes, and then told staffers  to avoid contacting “Dan Gaffney at WGMD”

Second, this week I broke the story about how on April 21st a pool of blood, a bloody handprint and a condom wrapper was discovered in a classroom at the start of the school day. A concerned teacher alerted the office, and Principal Goodman quickly ordered the blood cleaned up before the school police officer could be notified. State Police Crpl. Bratz, the school resource officer told me didn’t understand why the principal wouldn’t have let the police see the bloody scene before clean up. Why did the principal act in such an irresponsible way?  This time he ORDERED staffers not to call the Dan Gaffney Show. Read on….

Now at this hour, we hear that Principal Goodman has been arrested by the Delaware State Police. Sources tell me “it’s about 40 counts of rape”. We hear the victim was a student at the school. Officially the police have not released the charges; I’ll update you when that happens.

He has been suspended from his employment in the Indian River School District.

UPDATE AT 6:33 PM FROM WGMD NEWS:

The charges are 30 counts of 4th degree rape, endangering the welfare f a child and continual sexual abuse of a child. 38 year old Dana Goodman, the principal at Sussex Central High School in Georgetown was arrested around noon today at school for the alleged rape of a 17-year-old female high school student. State Police say the investigation was launched when an anonymous tip was sent to the school district via a letter. State Police detectives understand the contact was consensual and began in the early part of January of this year and ended about a week ago. Police say Goodman and the student met at various locations in Sussex and Kent counties. Goodman is being held at SCI in default of $331,000 cash only bail and has been ordered to have no contact with children under the age of 18 and no contact with the Indian River School District or its employees. Anyone else who may have been victimized, should call State Police at 302-856-5850 ext 219.
