Silent for Now

October 16th, 2009 by Bill Colley

Silent for the moment, the tea party event planned for Saturday is on hold. Without pointing a finger at any specific media outlet, let me tell you why. It appears there are some folks making editorial decisions based on petulance. When I was in the news business we dealt with facts and didn’t ignore stories because the people we covered didn’t always like us. Those mainstream media folks like claiming they’re above the fray.

Not the case on Delmarva. Some have distinguished themselves by firing reporters because members of the Cape school board didn’t think they were getting enough in the way of fawning coverage. Some of the eunuchs, excuse me, editors, buckled and made staffing changes to please the powers that be.

Now some of the spineless won’t cover political demonstrations and the like from the right because some members of the right believe the mainstream media has no stones.

Let me explain. See the growth of right-leaning alternatives? It’s a sharp and upward line. See the mainstream media? Cyclonic activity as it circles the drain.

There won’t be any local demonstrations Saturday because the “tough guys” in the mainstream media had their feelings hurt.

    Bill: You obviously did not read the Friday edition of the Cape Gazette. It presented a story on page 17 regarding the Delaware Patriots and the 912ers. So is the Gazette Fair and Balanced? Does it now qualify for your liking?

    The health insurance industry has us all by the throat — and yet they want more! They have a “10 Point Stranglehold Program” on America — but they want 13. Here’s what I mean:

    Insurance companies have 10 things already:

    1) No rate regulation;
    2) No rate caps;
    3) No competition;
    4) No federal regulation;
    5)Anti-trust exemption;
    6) ERISA protection
    7) Domination of state regulators;
    8) Pre-existing conditions to cherry-pick only the customers they want;
    9) Rescission to dump patients who cost them money;
    10) Life time caps to limit their liability and exposure to paying claims.

    But wait, there’s more! They now demand three more things:

    11) A federal mandate to buy coverage;
    12) Whopping penalties to enforce the mandate and make our government their enforcement and collection agent;
    13) Whopping subsidies of tax dollars (some call it money laundering) to pay for their overpriced, crappy product.

    According to the rules of capitalism, a product that is bad and overpriced fails in the marketplace. So does the company selling the junk. But, in corporate, crony capitalism-land (America, 1980-present) the rules of the game don’t apply. Yet, they call us Communists and Socialists. They are Fascists - plain and simple - the merger of big business and big government.

    Only single payer will break their grip from around our throat.

    Cape Gazette? Is that some sort of admission? The Guide is a more useful paper.
