The United States Coast Guard has suspended their search for a missing pilot following the crash of a small, single-engine plane in the water near Cape May Point just before noon on Wednesday.

In addition to the Coast Guard the New Jersey State Police, Cape May Fire Department and Cape May Police all contributed to search efforts which spanned across shore, sea and air. The Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay watch standers were notified of the incident and dispatched two boat crews to the region, a helicopter crew stationed in Atlantic City and the Coast Guard Cutter Hammerhead.

The Federal Aviation Administration and New Jersey State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
