Lewes Historical Society Hosting Presentation On Former Resort That Hosted R&B Stars

Feb 15, 2013 -- 9:03am

As part of Black History Month, the Lewes Historical Society will be hosting a program tonight to highlight a former resort where some of the biggest stars of the past in R&B have performed.

Tamara Jubilee Shaw will present “Rosedale…Where the Stars Came to Play.” The Rosedale Beach Hotel and Resort brought star musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder to Millsboro to perform. The resort was open to people of color during the era of segregation. A historical marker dedicated to the resort stands on what’s now Gull Point on the Indian River.

The presentation will begin at 7:30 tonight in the Fellowship Hall at the Lewes Presbyterian Church on Kings Highway.
