BREAKING: Jones Defeats Newlands for Mayor of Milton

Mar 02, 2013 -- 7:22pm

Milton has a new mayor.  Voter turn out was good as residents selected between incumbent Cliff Newlands and Councilwoman Marion Jones for the mayor's seat.  Jones was the top vote-getter with 340 votes to Newlands's 129.  Jones will serve a 3 year term as mayor

There were also two council seats up for election, but only two people filed for those two seats.  John Collier and Michael Cote will take spots left vacant by Vice Mayor Leah Betts and Norman Lester who did not run for another term on the town council.

The new members of the council will be sworn in at the town's April council meeting.  With Jones taking over the mayor's seat, that will leave a vacancy on the council.
