Bullet Removed from Face of Wilmington Police Officer Shot Last Month

Good news for that Wilmington police officer shot in the face last month.

Doctors on Monday removed the bullet lodged in Officer Justin Wilkers’ skull; they also reconstructed Wilkers’ ear canal.

Wilkers was shot on February 3 when he and his partner tried make a traffic stop on an SUV for a motor vehicle violation; Wilmington Police say the car led the officer’s on a high speed chase and when it finally stopped, three of five men got out of the SUV to flee and one of the men fired at Officer Wilkers, striking him in the face.

Police have arrested those three men: 21-year-olds Jared Wiggins, Ronald Boyce and Frederick Gray. Gray was identified as the man who pulled the trigger and faces an attempted murder charge.
