Dover City Council Approves Name Change for Some Dover Streets to Honor MLK Jr.

Dec 11, 2012 -- 8:25am

The Dover City Council Monday night voted in favor of renaming some City streets in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

Signage on Court, William Penn and Duke of York Streets will be changed to reflect the name change by January 21, when the nation celebrates King’s birthday.

An original proposal several weeks ago in Dover was to rename a stretch of Division Street after Martin Luther King Jr. However, the idea was met with some criticism and resistance from local business owners who said if the street was renamed, they would be forced to change their addresses; a move that could be rather costly.
