The Office of Highway Safety has just concluded its second wave of distracted driving enforcement – Phone in One Hand – Ticket in the Other. Over a 2 week period earlier this month 2,043 drivers were issued citations for distracted driving. With 2/3 of the Phone in One Hand, Ticket in the Other campaign now completed – a total of 4,195 drivers were issued tickets for distracted driving – the final wave of the campaign will take place June 4th through the 22nd. Last year police issued over 13,000 cell phone citations across the state, but it’s not the only form of distracted driving. Distracted driving is any non-driving activity a person engages in that has the potential to distract them from the task of driving – anything from talking to another person in the vehicle to putting on makeup to reading the newspaper.
