Same sex marriage is now law in Delaware. The Senate roll call vote was taken just after 5pm….
Governor Jack Markell signed the bill into law soon after the vote was taken. After 3 hours of discussion and testimony from numerous witnesses on both sides of the same sex marriage issue, a motion to table the bill by Senator Gerald Hocker was defeated. That was followed by the roll call vote which was approved House Bill 75 by a vote of 12 to 9.
Senate lawmakers have been discussing House Bill 75 on the floor with several witnesses testifying from clergy to members of Equality Delaware. The bill has already been passed in the state House. If passed in the Senate – Delaware would become the 11th state to approve same sex marriage. Governor Markell has said he would sign the bill.
