UPDATED: New Castle Man Dead after Crash on I-495 in Edgemoor

UPDATED - State Police have identified the man killed in a crash on I-495 just after noon on Saturday as 49 year old Francisco Gomez of New Castle.  Police say Gomez was driving a pickup and changed lanes to pass a vehicle when he collided with the rear of a tractor trailer and his truck got stuck under the back of the tractor trailer.  Gomez was not properly restrained and was pronounced dead at the scene.  Police say a tire in the bed of the pickup was ejected and hit a third vehicle causing minor damage and no injuries.


UPDATED - 6pm -  A 49 year old New Castle man is dead after a crash on I-495 in Edgemoor just after noon today.  State Police say a pickup truck driven by the New Castle man changed lanes quickly to pass a car in the center lane and struck the rear of a tractor trailer.  The pickup became lodged under the rear of the trailer. The driver of the tractor trailer was able to move to the shoulder – the driver, a 60 year old Virginia Beach man was properly restrained and not injured.  The driver of the pickup was also properly restrained – and pronounced dead at the scene – his name is being held pending notification of next of kin.  A tire was ejected from the bed of the pickup which struck a third vehicle – no one in that vehicle was injured.


1:30pm - State Police are investigating a deadly crash just after noon on southbound I-495 north of Edgemoor Road.  Police are on the scene of a multi-vehicle crash that is a fatal.  Traffic is being impacted on the southbound side – and is being detoured around the scene.
