When you think of airports – you think of BWI, Regan, O’Hare and the like – but across the country – and in Delaware there are many smaller public-use airports that are just as important to each state’s economies. Delaware has 11 public-use airports that serve over 1400 pilots and over 13,000 general aviation aircraft. General aviation in the First State supports over 15,000 jobs and contributes over $188-million to the state’s economy annually!
June has been proclaimed General Aviation Month in Delaware by Governor Jack Markell, which he says plays a critical role in the lives of Delawareans – as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms. Selena Shilad, Executive Director of the Alliance for Aviation Across America tells WGMD general aviation does have a role in agriculture - for surveying and crop control.
