Power Grids Stretched Thin

As of 8:25 a.m. this morning, the PJM Regional (Electric Power) Transmission Office issued a heavy load voltage schedule warning to all electric power generation and transmission companies in the region, which encompasses the northeastern quarter of the U.S.

A heavy load voltage schedule warning is issued to members via the ALL-CALL system to request members to prepare for maximum support of voltages on the bulk power system.

Thursday’s power demand of 158,180 megawatts tied the all-time high. Today’s forecast peak load is 157,500 megawatts.
