The expansion of a beach along the Rehoboth Bay in Dewey Beach has been completed.
Contractor Diamond Hill, Inc. finished the beach nourishment project to expand the bayside beach on Van Dyke Avenue, widening it by 60 feet. The project used 1,600 cubic yards of sand that was excavated from Dewey Beach Enterprises’ Lighthouse Cove construction project as the company redevelops its Ruddertowne property. The expanded public beach is an amenity being provided by DBE as part of the Mutual Agreement and Release with the town of Dewey Beach that allowed the project to go forward. The project was completed in spite of a trespasser damaging sand moving equipment last month.
DBE President E. Thomas Harvey III says the expanded beach will give residents and visitors increased access to the bay, and will provide an alternative to the rougher surf on the ocean, especially for families with small children.
