Car and military plane enthusiasts will be getting their fill today at the Sussex County Airport.
The Sixth Annual Wings & Wheels Fall Festival will be today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the airport. The highlight this year will be 98-year-old retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Dick Cole, who is one of only four surviving members of “Doolittle’s Raiders.” Doolittle’s Raiders carried out a daring bombing mission on Tokyo in 1942, just four months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
As part of the festival, there will also be a classic car show, and World War II-era planes will be on display. For $425 each, visitors will also be able to take a flight in a B-25 Mitchell Bomber, which flew missions in the South Pacific, North Africa and Europe during World War II. Rides will also be available in helicopters and World War II training planes.
