Nice weekend for the sci-fi film, "Ender's Game," based on the book by ORSON SCOTT CARD. The film was easily number one, pulling in $24.9 million. "Bad Grandpa" was second with $18 million. The rest of the top-10:

10. "The Counselor," $3.3 million,
9. "Carrie," $3.4 million,
8. "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2," $4.2 million,
7. "12 Years a Slave," $4.6 million,
6. "Captain Phillips," $8.5 million,

5. "Gravity," $11.1 million,
4. "Free Birds," (debut), $16.2 million,
3. "Last Vegas," (debut), $16.5 million,
2. "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa," $20.5 million,
1. "Ender's Game," (debut), $28 million.

The Reel Deal:
The North American box office wasn't the big story this weekend --it was the opening of "Thor: The Dark World" overseas. That movie opened in 36 countries and pulled in nearly $110 million dollars.
   That's big bucks outside the US, and ahead of the first "Thor" movie as well. So with the blockbuster opening this coming weekend here in North America, it looks to be a big one for Marvel Studios and Disney.
