Maryland AG Gansler Reminding Health Insurance Companies to Treat Consumers Fairly Under State Law, Affordable Care Act

Nov 19, 2013 -- 8:49am

Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler is reminding health insurance companies in the state that they have to treat consumers fairly under both state law and the Affordable Care Act.

Gansler says insurance companies who issue cancellation notices have to inform policyholders about all their rights and options under state and federal law, and should make letters about policy cancellations and consumers’ rights concise and easy to understand. He says there have been reports of insurance companies in other states that have attempted to intentionally evoke fear and mislead consumers about their options under the ACA.
