Correctional Officers Sue Delaware

The widow of Steven Floyd and five correctional officers sued Delaware in federal court Tuesday in the wake of the riot at James T Vaughn in February. Among those being sued are Ruth Ann Minner and former Governor Jack Markell, as well as former corrections commissioners. The officers and Floyd are looking for a jury trial to determine damage claims. The group is calling for retribution from the defendants, who they say caused understaffing at the facilities for up to 16 years. They said that Markell called for 90 positions within the prisons to stay unmanned. This lawsuit comes on the heels of the staged sick out by correctional officers to show their disdain for the system.
