DE CHIP program funding to run out in February

Funding for Delaware’s Children’s Health Insurance Program is projected to run dry in February. Delaware State News reporting more than 8,000 children in the First State would be affected if the federal program stops funding the CHIP program, and if the state gets left on the hook, that would add $13 million a year to state budget costs, on top of the $3 million the state already pays into the program. Ranking congress members in the Senate Finance Committee said they reached a deal in September, but that bill was never voted on.
