According to the report, shortly after 7 PM a fire started on Bay Avenue and quickly spread out of control. Delaware State Assistant Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio tells WGMD investigators determined the cause and origin of the blaze was discarded charcoal briquets whose embers ignited ground cover. He says the high winds during that evening scattered burning embers across the neighborhood and spread to a number of houses and garages within minutes, completely destroying 2 homes.
