Delaware State Police and the Office of Highway Safety are teaming up to battle distracted driving in the state with a series of undercover enforcement initiatives across the state.

The operations will take place in New Castle, Kent and Sussex Counties, and will be conducted by undercover troops, often in an unmarked van, flagging nearby officers to the distracted drivers. The main target for law enforcement will be motorists talking or texting on their phones.

Authorities tell WGMD that distracted driving fatalities have been on the rise in Delaware., with sharp increases since 2012.
