UPDATED – Monday – Delaware State Police have released the name of the suspect who led Worcester Sheriff’s Deputy Anthony Rhode on a chase through Worcester County and into Delaware where he was shot by both Rhode and an Ocean View Police officer. The suspect has been identified as 31 year old Troy Lee Short of Hurlock, MD. He remains in critical condition at Christiana Hospital. There are no further updates into this investigation which is still on-going.
UPDATED – 11am – A Worcester County Sheriff’s deputy spotted a vehicle moving erratically around 8th Street in Ocean City, but when the deputy tried to stop the driver – the 31 year old man from Hurlock sped off. The suspect crashed his vehicle near Berlin and stole another vehicle – then abandoned that near Route 90. The suspect took another vehicle and abandoned it on St Martins Neck Road. Deputies learned the suspect burglarized a home near the Light House Sound development and then stole another vehicle where they spotted the suspect and tried again to stop him, but he sped into Delaware. The chase led to Ocean View where a local police officer joined the chase and the suspect ended up on a dead end road. The suspect drove an Ocean View officer’s vehicle off the dead end road – then drove towards a Worcester County Sheriff’s deputy. Both officers fired multiple shots to stop the 31 year old Hurlock man – he is in serious condition at a local hospital. The Ocean View officer was treated and released.
An Ocean View police officer was assisting Worcester County Sheriff’s deputies in a chase of an SUV near Ocean View. The driver of the SUV ended up on a dead end road and accelerated backwards into the marked Ocean View police vehicle – pushing it off the road – then the SUV began driving toward a sheriff deputy who was outside his vehicle. The Ocean View officer and deputy both fired multiple shots before the SUV came to a stop. Delaware State Police are investigating and say the driver of the SUV, a 31 year old man from Hurlock is in serious condition. The Ocean View officer was treated and released.
