Va. Dept of Health tracking foodborne illness linked to Chincoteague Chilli Cookoff

The Virginia Department of Health is asking anyone who attended the Chincoteague Chilli Chowder Cook-Off September 30th to complete an online survey regarding foodborne illness. The VDH estimates over 2,500 people were in attendance of the event in Chincoteague, and is reaching out to its counterparts in Maryland and Delaware to assist with getting people to take the survey.

After the event, numerous attendees developed some sort of food poisoning including symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and fever; at least 1 Delaware resident has been stricken with illness related to the event. By getting attendees to take the survey, VDH hopes it can pinpoint the cause of the outbreak.
