Foreign Exchange Student Critically Injured In Ocean City Hit-and-Run


UPDATE: September 8th – A man from Snow Hill is looking at multiple charges stemming from a fatal hit-and-run in Ocean City last week. Ocean City Police Department is charging Brooks Bratten with failure to remain at the scene, negligent driving and a slew of other charges after he struck a bicyclist near 2nd Street and Philadelphia Avenue last week. Bratten sped off after the accident, and the bicyclist, a J-1 Visa worker from Slovakia died 2 days later from her injuries. OCPD issued a warrant for Brattens arrest on Wednesday, and as of this writing, he is yet to be apprehended.

Early this morning at about 3 a.m. officers were dispatched to a hit-&-run collision involving a bicycle near 205 Philadelphia Avenue in Ocean City. According to Lindsay Richard, police spokeswoman, a J-1 visa (exchange) student from Slovakia was riding her bike southbound on Philadelphia Avenue in the area of 2nd Street when a southbound vehicle struck her.

The suspect vehicle did not stop after the collision. The victim is currently in critical condition at PRMC. While the investigation is on-going, a suspect has been identified and charges are forthcoming.
