Former DE DOC officer sentenced to 3 years in jail

A former Delaware corrections officer will serve 3 years behind bars for his part in smuggling drugs and cell phones into Vaughn Correctional Center. Thomas Boyce was sentenced on Tuesday after previously pleading guilty to 3 counts of conspiracy to commit extortion under color of official right. Boyce was a corrections officer at Vaughn Correctional for 20 years, until 2015; prosecutors say in 2013 and 2014, Boyce smuggled contraband to 16 inmates. Acting US attorney for the District of Delaware  David Wiess says Boyce was supposed to keep the prison safe, but his actions endangered other officers and inmates.
