UPDATE: High Seas Search for Overboard Captain

UPDATE (3 a.m.): After a nearly three-hour search involving civilians, Coast Guard small boats, a cutter, helicopter and C-130, the missing man has been recovered alive.  He was picked up around 1:30 a.m., suffering possibly hypothermia.  He was taken by helicopter to Atlantic City.  The Sea Robin is headed back to port.

Coast Guard vessels and aircraft are searching the Atlantic Ocean about 60 miles east of Indian River Inlet for a man who reportedly went overboard shortly after 10 p.m., Saturday.

The Coast Guard received a VHF radio report from the first mate of the Sea Robin stating that the owner of the boat had gone overboard and the first mate was unable to stop the vessel.

Among those vessels in the area is the Maersk WestPort, a 176-meter container ship. The Westport has been able to come along side the Sea Robin and is currently assisting the Coast Guard with the search.

Coast Guard vessels from Cape May as well as Indian River have vessels on scene along with a helicopter from Air Station Atlantic City.
