MD congressman fights NOAA in budget proposal

Eastern Shore US Congressman Andy Harris was able to attach an amendment to the Appropriations bill for FY 2018 which stipulated that any funding passing through Congress would not be used to implement or enforce designating any portion of the Chesapeake Bay as a “critical habitat” for Atlantic Sturgeon. Rep. Harris says a current proposal by NOAA to place that designation on the Bay was made without proper community input and documentation. He says if approved, the designation would be a “burdensome regulation” that would “stifle commercial activity” and “inhibit oyster restoration” efforts.
