Authorities across the region are continuing to see a rise in vehicle break-ins. The Ocean City Police Department says many of the vehicle break-ins spawn from the heroin and opioid crisis, as users look for ways to sustain their addiction.

According to the department, most of the time the crimes are ones of opportunity, which is why they are reminding citizens to clear out any valuables and lock their vehicles whenever you step away from your car. Ocean City Police say if you must leave valuables in the car, put them out of sight before you reach your destination, as someone might notice you hiding things under the seat or in the trunk.
