Police capture both suspects in Lewes robbery

UPDATED 4/20: Police arrest the second robbery suspect accused of assaulting a Lewes resident. Delaware State Police say they got a call yesterday that Amanda Hoopes of Lewes was at a home on Wil King Road. Hoopes was wanted for the April 10th assault and robbery of a 67-year old man who lives on the same road. Troopers responded to the home and took Hoopes into custody without incident. She was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $14,000 secured bond.

Her accomplice, John Schaefer was picked up last week in Rehoboth. He was transported back to Troop 7 where he was charged with Robbery First Degree, Criminal Mischief, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Malicious Interference with Emergency Communication, Conspiracy Second Degree, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Schaefer was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $64,300.00 secured bond.

Delaware State Police are looking for two robbery suspects in Lewes. According to police, yesterday afternoon a 67-year old landlord got into an argument with one of his tenants at a property on Wil King Road. The fight got physical, with 25-year old John Schaefer of Georgetown beating up the victim.

Then while on the ground, Schaefer took the victims cash, cell phone, eye glasses, and keys. He along with 27-year old Amber Hoopes of Lewes then hopped into the victims black Cadillac Escalade and sped off.  The victim was taken to the hospital and is still recovering.

Police are searching for Schaefer and Hoopes; Schaefer is a white male with brown hair and brown eyes, Hoopes a white female with blonde hair and blue eyes. Anyone who knows of their whereabouts are asked to contact State Police.
