Storm Update – Flooding and High Water Expected for Sussex County

Snow began falling in Sussex County this afternoon – although in Kent and New Castle Counties the snow has been falling much of the day.

Police report multiple minor accidents throughout the state – and as of 2:45 this afternoon a Level 1 driving restriction was put in place by Governor John Carney for Kent and New Castle Counties.  A State of Emergency remains in effect statewide.  Delaware National Guard has been posted in New Castle and Sussex Counties.

DEC – about 3000 members affected by power outages mainly in Camden, Smyrna, Clayton and west to the state line

About 7 without power in area of Love Creek – downed tree broke utility pole – crews are working to replace the broken pole. Expected restoration between 2:30 & 4:30pm – power has been restored to these 7 members.

DNREC is watching the beaches for damage and there have been reports of high water and flooding in the Oak Orchard, Long Neck and Millsboro areas. The next High Tides in Oak Orchard – 2:22am, Thursday and 3:01pm, Thursday.  There have also been reports of flooding on River Road in Oak Orchard in the area of Layton Davis Road – DelDOT has River Road closed in that area.
