Sussex County to consider becoming ‘right-to-work’ region

Sussex County might change how business is done in the first state. At yesterday’s Sussex County Council meeting, Councilman Rob Arlett proposed an ordinance to make Sussex County the first right-to-work area in the northeast United States.

He tells The Daily Signal he propsed the ordinance because the status quo is “no longer tolerable for Sussex County,” and the area needs to attract private sector jobs. At the Council meeting Arlett gave a presentation detailing a conversation he had with an employer who declined to expand business in the county, rather opting to build new facilities in right to work states of North Carolina and Virginia.

The introduced ordinance now kicks off a process of public hearings and debates before the final ordinance is voted on at a future date.
