WGMD Fishing Report 10-17-18

Wednesday saw gale warnings in the ocean and bay with no relief in sight until Friday.

Amanda at Lewes Harbour Marina said no boats left from their docks on Wednesday.

At Hook ‘em and Cook ‘em Chris told us one boat did try to fish for sea bass on Wednesday, but was turned back by the rough seas.  Another boat did fish the inlet catching one keeper tog and several blues.

Clark at Old Inlet Bait and Tackle reported that blues to 16 inches were caught from the beach on fresh mullet.  The inlet saw the same size blues taken on bucktails or metal lures during incoming current.  A few kings were caught from the beach on bloodworms or FishBites.

Once we get some decent weather I expect the surf to show more signs of life with kings, blues and perhaps a trout or two.  Cooler water could encourage false albacore to visit the surf giving angers a real challenge.  These speeders will attack a metal lure that is retrieved at a fast clip.  The trick is to cast where they are going, not where they have been.
