WGMD Fishing Report 11-14-18

With small craft advisories up on Wednesday no one got out and it looks like we could have gale warnings up for Thursday and Friday.  On the bright side, the weather for the weekend could be fishable.  Is that even possible?

Back in the day, I used to spend Thanksgiving week on Hatteras Island with my two sons and their families.  We finally quit going when the fishing got so bad we spent a week catching exactly one small sea mullet (kingfish).

Right now not only are they catching sea mullet to two pounds the red drum run in the surf has been excellent.  The only problem is the red drum seem to attract a bad crowd at the Point who seem to feel confrontation is part of the sport of fishing.  In all my years of fishing on Hatteras Island I believe I fished the Point exactly twice.  Once was for big blues and the other time was for flounder.  The flounder crowd was a bit less hectic, but the bluefish folks were as mad as hatters with Hopkins flying through the air in every direction.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD Fishing Report
