Monday was another windy day and no one ventured out into the bay or ocean.
I did have a report from Old Inlet Bait and Tackle that rockfish to 20 inches were caught from the back of the inlet. Once again we are seeing more resident fish, but still no migratory rockfish since they remain in New Jersey.
Speaking of New Jersey, my son Roger called on Monday with a story about a small boat that tried to go out for those big stripers on Sunday. They had pretty much the same weather there as we had here and the boat capsized. The Coast Guard was able to retrieve the occupants before they drowned.
When I talk about making good decisions and not going out when the weather is bad I think I am talking to the choir. Surely everyone knows you don’t go out to the ocean when we have a gale warning and winds are gusting to 40 or 50 knots. Apparently not.
The weather for the rest of the week does hold some promise. Let’s hope we can get out and the big rockfish arrive for Thanksgiving.
