Sunday was cold and windy keeping most people at home where it was warm and calm.
The weather does not look welcoming over the next few days with winds and subfreezing temperatures promised for most of the week. That plus the diversions of the holiday season will keep fishermen off the water. The only exception to this would be a run of big stripers and I don’t think this is likely.
Once we get some moderate weather tog and black sea bass will be available until December 31 and after that it will just be tog. I have had some very productive tog trips during the winter, it’s just a matter of finding a decent weather day and a good charter captain. On one Super Bowl Sunday five of us caught a limit of tog on the Karen Sue with Captain John Nedelka. And we were back home in plenty of time to watch the game.
Not every boat will run during the winter due to insurance costs and lack of good weather days. Check with your favorite captain and if he isn’t running perhaps he will recommend someone who is.
