Saturday saw consistent fishing reports. Lewes Harbour Marina, Old Inlet Bait and Tackle and Hook ‘em and Cook ‘em all reported no fish. Sunday promises better weather and I expect more folks will be on the water.
We have some warmer weather on the way and that should encourage more people to try for tog or rockfish, but just because the air has warmed up does not mean the water has. As of Saturday, the water temperature in the bay and ocean was in the mid- to low 40s. Your survival time in water that cold is measured in minutes. To avoid dying of hypothermia don’t go in the water. To keep from going in the water make sure you take every precaution to stay on the boat or dry land. Wear the correct shoes or boots. Hunting or construction boots are worthless on a slippery deck. Don’t take chances. If your favorite rod and reel fall overboard don’t follow them. If you are surf fishing stay out of the wash. A wave can come in behind you and knock you down. Never fish alone. Always wear your PFD.
