WGMD Fishing Report 12-18-18

The sun was back out on Tuesday, but if anyone went fishing they kept it a secret.  Actually, there were a few hardy souls fishing the rocks at the inlet, but they didn’t have much luck.

Yesterday we told you about the increase in the fee for the surf fishing permit issued by the Division of Parks and Recreation.  In addition, they will also limit the number of permits issued to 17,000.  Last year the Division issued 17,104 permits.  The reason for the limit is to cut down on overcrowding.  Not sure those missing 104 surf fishing vehicles will make much difference on a summer weekend.

The saltwater recreational fishing community has been trying to get some relief from Congress for many years.  Since we are regulated by the Commerce Department we get overlooked in favor of commercial fishing interests.  Finally, the Senate has passed the Modern Fish Act and now the bill will go to the house, who did pass a version of the bill on July 11, but now must pass this latest version.  Contact your representative and ask for their support.
