Friday was just another bad day for fishing. The weather is about as unbearable as we get in Delaware, but at least the snow has gone. I am still getting reports from Cape Charles, Virginia where rockfish to 54 pounds have been caught this week. These are better men than I. Last week my son Ric and a few of his demented kayak buddies tried eeling at night at the Concrete Ships, but caught nothing.
My last report from New Jersey said they are still getting stripers. Does this mean there will be some first of the year rockfish action off of Delaware? Only time will tell.
The ponds in Sussex County are covered in a thin sheet of ice. This will keep most anglers away, but every year someone tries to go out on the ice and falls in. Please don’t even think about ice fishing anytime soon and better yet, just don’t do it at all.
Any attempt at fishing the open water of the bay or ocean in this sub-freezing weather will result in freezing spray building up on your boat. Not a good thing.
This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report.
